What do LIPS monitor?

LIPS primarily monitors and records liquor prices advertised in print and electronic media throughout New Zealand.

The print media publications include large metropolitan dailies, smaller provincial, suburban and community newspapers, and promotional circulars distributed by liquor retailers.

Since 2006, LIPS have also been monitoring liquor prices advertised via email and websites from leading liquor merchants nationwide.

The data is keyed into a database and uploaded to this website where three different liquor pricing report types can be viewed and downloaded.

LIPS Advertised Liquor Pricing Reports

  • Wee Nibble: Basic market overview of advertised liquor prices. A little taste.
  • Mouthful: More in-depth liquor pricing report including information on the retailer and media.
  • Gobstopper: The big picture including all liquor advertising details. Everything you want to know.

The reports can be subscribed to at a ‘total market’ level for all liquor products, channels and regions, or they can be accessed based on the following selection criteria:.

  • Product category: Beer, Wine, Spirits / RTDs.
  • Region: Upper North Island, Lower North Island, South Island.
  • Channel: Grocery, Retail Chains, Independent Liquor Outlets.

There is a vast array of information recorded on each liquor advertisement from basic product and pricing information, through to more detailed marketing insights including any added value offers and media circulation figures etc.

With each report there is an online filter where users can easily select their choices from a drop down menu to sort the data by various criteria
